Patients
with Head and Neck Cancer are often seen by a Speech
Therapist for help with swallowing and communication
problems.
These
problems usually arise after surgery to the structures
of the Head and Neck. They may also result from tissue
and nerve damage as a side effect of radiation and /
or chemotherapy.
The
important structures include the muscles of the lips,
jaw, tongue, soft palate, pharynx, larynx and oesophagus.
